In The Play to be Played, freely inspired by Six Characters In Search Of An Author, the protagonists of Pirandello’s play burst into the performance of a current production and vehemently claim their right to tell their real story, which for them is much more interesting than the fiction of our stages.
The author intends to create illusion. He apologetically uses this word which causes his characters so much pain in The Play to be Played. Illusion, after all, is the essence with which theatre works, the illusion of a moment of reality that can invite reflection and, hopefully, emotion.
A few actors and a space where they can develop their performance. Nothing else. Practically without any scenery, without large displays of lighting, costumes or props. The actors and the living word.
En La función por hacer, libremente inspirada en Seis personajes en busca de autor, los protagonistas de la obra de Pirandello irrumpen en la representación de un montaje actual y reclaman con vehemencia su derecho a contar su historia real, para ellos, mucho más interesante que la ficción de nuestros escenarios.
Esto es lo que pretende el autor: crear la ilusión (y siente utilizar esta palabra que tanto dolor ocasiona a los personajes de La función por hacer, pero que, al fin y al cabo, es la materia con la que trabaja la gente del teatro, la ilusión) de un instante de realidad que pueda invitar a la reflexión y, ojalá, a la emoción.
Unos cuantos actores y un espacio donde desarrollar la función. Nada más. Prácticamente sin escenografía, sin grandes despliegues de iluminación, vestuario o atrezzo. Los actores y la palabra viva que mueva.
The Play to Be Played is a milestone in my professional career. Last year we celebrated the 10th anniversary of its premiere and we staged it again at the Pavón Kamikaze theatre with the original cast, even though it has continued to be staged, in Madrid, as well as in national and international tours over the past 10 years. So the prospect of it being translated into English and played at the Cervantes Theatre in London by Jorge de Juan, is an enormous joy and the cherry on this tasty cake that we have been savouring for 10 years.

El año pasado celebramos el 10º aniversario de su estreno y volvimos a representarla en el teatro Pavón Kamikaze con el reparto original, pero a lo largo de estos 10 años no ha parado de representarse tanto en reposiciones varias, en Madrid, como en giras nacionales e internacionales. Así que la perspectiva de que se traduzca al inglés y se presente en el Cervantes Theatre de Londres, de la mano de Jorge de Juan, es una alegría enorme y una guinda más en este sabroso pastel que llevamos 10 años saboreando.”

Miguel del Arco
Trained at the Escuela Superior de Canto and the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático, he began as a film actor performing in films such as Morirás en Chafarinas (1995), Entre rojas (1995), Boca a boca (1995) or Bwana (1996). During the following ten years he performed in TV series, such as Manos a la obra, Hospital Central or El comisario.
In 2002 he and Aitor Tejada founded the production company Kamikaze, they recorded three short films: Morir, dormir, soñar, Palos de ciego amor and La envidia del Ejército Nipón.
For TV he directed La sopa boba (2004) and wrote and directed Lalola (2008). He also directed Los exitosos Pells (2009).
In 2009 he directed, to critical acclaim The play to be played, an adaptation of the piece Six Characters In Search of An Author.
He led the productions of El proyecto Youkali (2010), Veraneantes (2011), by Máximo Gorki, The Rape of Lucrecia (2010), by William Shakespeare, with Nuria Espert, Juicio a una zorra (2011), with Carmen Machi, Of Mice and Men (2012), in free adaptation of the novel by John Steinbeck and The Inspector, by Gogol, with Gonzalo de Castro heading the poster.
In 2013 he wrote and directed Deseo, performed by Castro, Luis Merlo, Emma Suárez and Belén López.
In 2014 he adapted and directed the play El misántropo, by Molière, with an interpretation by Israel Elejalde, Bárbara Lennie, Manuela Paso, Raúl Prieto, Cristóbal Suárez, Miriam Montilla and Jose Luis Martinez
In 2014 he became a founding member of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain.
In August 2016 he became artistic co-director with Israel Elejalde of El Pavón Teatro Kamikaze in Madrid and, in 2017, the company, Kamikaze Teatro, received the 2017 National Theatre Award from the Ministry of Culture.

Formado en la Escuela Superior de Canto y en la Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático, se inició como actor de cine participando en películas como Morirás en Chafarinas (1995), Entre rojas (1995), Boca a boca (1995) o Bwana (1996). Durante los siguientes diez años intervino episódicamente en series de televisión, como Manos a la obra, Hospital Central o El comisario.
En 2002 fundó, junto a Aitor Tejada, la productora teatral Kamikaze, con la que graban tres cortometrajes: Morir, dormir, soñar, Palos de ciego amor y La envidia del Ejército Nipón.
Para televisión dirige La sopa boba (2004) y escribe los guiones de las series Lalola (2008) – que además dirigió – y Los exitosos Pells (2009).
En 2009 dirigió, con un gran éxito, la obra La función por hacer, adaptación de la que es coautor de la pieza Seis personajes en busca de autor.
Posteriormente se pone al frente de los montajes de El proyecto Youkali (2010), Veraneantes (2011), de Máximo Gorki, La violación de Lucrecia (2010), de William Shakespeare, con Nuria Espert, Juicio a una zorra (2011), con Carmen Machi, De ratones y hombres (2012), en libre adaptación de la novela de John Steinbeck y El inspector, de Gogol, con Gonzalo de Castro encabezando el cartel.
En 2013 dirige Deseo, de la que es autor, y que interpretan de Castro, Luis Merlo, Emma Suárez y Belén López.
Un año después es Moliére, el autor al que adapta y dirige en la obra El misántropo, con interpretación de Israel Elejalde, Bárbara Lennie, Manuela Paso, Raúl Prieto, Cristóbal Suárez, Miriam Montilla y José Luis Martínez.
En el año 2014 fue miembro fundador de la Academia de las Artes Escénicas de España.
En agosto de 2016 se convierte en codirector artístico junto con Israel Elejalde de El Pavón Teatro Kamikaze de Madrid y, en 2017, la compañía, Kamikaze Teatro, recibe el Premio Nacional de Teatro 2017 que otorga el Ministerio de Cultura.
Aitor Tejada
Playwright, actor, screenwriter, assistant director and producer, as well as soul and instigator (together with Miguel del Arco) from Kamikaze Producciones, which both of them founded in 2002 and which is possibly the theatre producer and company that has had most influence on the Spanish theatre scene. Together with the company, he has been awarded some of the most important theatre awards in Spain, such as the MAX Awards in 2011 for the Best Private Entreprenuer, Best Adapter and Best Performance, the MAX Awards in 2012 for the Best Private Entreprenuer and Best Performance and the 2015 CERES Award for the Best Business Career. Aitor has written La función por hacer and has worked as assistant director in Hamlet, Misanthrope, Desire, The inspector General, Summerfolk and La función por hacer, amongst many other works. As producer, we can also highlight his work in Hamlet, Antigone, Misanthrope, Trial of a Whore, La función por hacer and The Youkali Project.
Aitor Tejada
Es autor, actor, guionista, ayudante de dirección y productor, además de alma e impulsor (junto a Miguel del Arco) de Kamikaze Producciones, que ambos fundaron cuando corría el año 2002 y que es, posiblemente, la productora teatral y compañía que más ha influido en la escena nacional de los últimos años. Junto a ella, ha sido merecedor de algunos de los premios más importantes de nuestro teatro, entre ellos, los Premios MAX en 2011 al Mejor Empresario Privado, Mejor Adaptador y Mejor Espectáculo, los Premios MAX en 2012 al Mejor Empresario Privado y Mejor Espectáculo y el Premio CERES 2015 a la Mejor Trayectoria Empresarial. Aitor ha escrito La función por hacer y ha sido ayudante de dirección en Hamlet, Misántropo, Deseo, El inspector, Veraneantes y La función por hacer, entre muchas otras piezas. Como productor, destacan también sus trabajos para Hamlet, Antígona, Misántropo, Juicio a una zorra, La función por hacer y El proyecto Youkali.
