FUNDRAISING SPECIALIST

The Cervantes Theatre is looking for an organised and motivated freelance fundraiser with persuasive written and communication skills to lead our fundraising strategy. The fundraising specialist will work closely in conjunction with the Artistic Directors to raise income from public bodies (eg Arts Council England), Trusts, foundations and a variety of other sources including the private sector.

 

BACKGROUND

The Cervantes Theatre opened its doors in November 2016. It is the proud creation of the Spanish Theatre Company (STC), a charity which aims to bring the best Spanish and Latin American culture to London and to British audiences.

The Cervantes Theatre is London’s first venue dedicated to showcasing Spanish and Latin American plays, performed both in Spanish and in English, and produced by the STC itself or other theatre companies. Each year we need to raise £500,000 in order to achieve our mission. We achieve this through a mix of funding from public institutions, private donations and corporate sponsorship.

The Cervantes Theatre presents a wide variety of productions, ranging from modern and contemporary masterpieces to Spanish Golden Age Classics, to a broad audience of all nationalities. It also develops productions for schools. Through its bilingual programming, STC encourages Spanish/Latin American/British cultural exchange and it is becoming a reference point in London for Spanish-speaking culture and heritage.

 

THE ROLE

Duties will include:
• Supporting the creation of a robust fundraising and income generation strategy
• Taking responsibility for writing specific funding applications
• Identifying new trusts and foundations and funding sources that fit the aims of the programme
• Working with the team to set and realise fundraising targets for 2022/2023 and subsequent years
• Providing specialist fundraising advice and guidance and supporting the company’s capacity in delivering the fundraising strategy

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have:
• Excellent knowledge of the arts funding landscape and fundraising for charitable organisations
• A track record of raising income from public bodies like the Arts Council and Trusts/Foundations
• Demonstrable experience and a track record of fundraising for arts organisations
• A keen interest in the arts, performing arts and (ideally) Spanish-speaking culture
• An ability to work flexibly and in collaboration with the Cervantes Theatre

 

FEE

• This is a freelance position. A day or monthly rate will be discussed with candidates.

PRODUCTION MANAGER

The Cervantes Theatre is looking for an organised and professional Production Manager who oversees the production process and coordinates all activities to ensure enough resources are on hand for our company’s upcoming productions. The Production Manager will work closely with the Artistic Directors, from the creative ideas of the programme to the delivery of the technical aspects of each show.

THE ROLE

Duties will include:

-To be responsible for the planning and realisation of productions, including commissioning and costing set construction, liaising with designers and contractors, coordinating and scheduling all technical aspects of the production.

-To liaise with and support freelance Directors, Designers, Lighting and Sound Designers engaged for productions and to advise accordingly, in consultation with the Artistic Directors.

-To plan and produce production schedules, in consultation with the Artistic Team and to manage the efficient running of production weeks.

-To manage and strictly control production budgets and other specified areas of expenditure, abiding by the company’s financial systems.

-Obtain accurate costings for all productions and staffing requirements and ensuring that designs can be delivered within budget, including transportation of production materials.

-To consult with the Artistic Team on any additional items of expenditure and on day to day matters, budget reconciliation and analysis.

-To organise and lead regular production meetings to support the productions ensuring that notes are taken and distributed in a prompt fashion.

-To ensure that appropriate production and technical support is provided, planning staff requirements and making any necessary appointments to meet the needs of the theatre programme and production schedule.

-Coordinate a high standard of delivery of sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound and all other aspects of physical production within agreed briefs, budgets and timescales.

-Be in attendance at the fit-up, technical rehearsals, shootings and get outs, ensuring that all technical notes arising from them are passed on and acted upon. 

-To ensure that Risk Assessments are regularly carried out for the building and for every production and that all necessary alterations are implemented

-To ensure that no design obstructs permanent fire exits or passageways, that the company maintains the theatre areas in a presentable and safe state and that fire exits are kept clear. 

-To work with the Artistic Team and House Manager on developing the organisation’s equipment and maintenance infrastructure

-To suggest upgrades and new equipment with costings where appropriate. 

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have:

-Excellent understanding of the departments involved in a theatre production.

-Excellent understanding of the technical aspects of theatre.

-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

-Experience in managing small and mid-scale budgets.

-Experience in managing small and mid-scale schedules.

-Ability to work under pressure. 

-Good management of people and finances

-Self-motivated.

-Can work well to deadlines

-Creative problem-solving

-Contract negotiation

-Office suite (particularly, advanced knowledge of spreadsheets

-Knowledge of union rates and regulations

-Leadership
