OUR EDUCATIONAL AIMS

The Spanish Theatre Company (STC) is a charity committed to making theatre part of the language classroom experience through its bilingual programming for schools. It aims to introduce the riches of Spanish and Latin American theatre to younger audiences, further cultural exchange, encourage self-awareness, and enhance foreign language acquisition. Furthermore, the STC hopes to create the next generation of theatregoers and theatre artists.

WHAT WE DO

The STC produces a varied programme of outstanding and relevant productions for schools. These plays deal with all kind of themes and are appropriate for the different ages of our audiences. All the actors are Spanish speakers and trained theatre professionals experienced in involving the audience in interactive, emotional, and thought-provoking ways. Furthermore, the actors different native accents will expose students to the diversity of the Spanish language.

WHY?

More than 500 million people around the world speak Spanish. It is the second most spoken language in the world by number of its native speakers. The language, literature and history of Spanish-speaking countries have great cultural importance along with political and economic impacts across Europe, Africa, America and Asia. The STC helps open the door to this world through its intercultural and interactive approach to the dramatic arts.

The Cervantes Theatre stages numerous Spanish language plays throughout the year by Spanish and Latin American playwrights. The productions are generally performed in Spanish and in English.

All schools who wish to be involved with the programme will  be provided with our educational pack a few weeks before the trip.

Visits can also include a pre or post-show talk with a member of the creative team, who will talk about the creative process and discuss issues surrounding the play.

We also offer educational workshops, which can either be held at schools or at our theatre and these vary depending on what the school is looking for.
